I believe that my younger brother is closer to spirit than I am. His autism seems to lift the veil between worlds. My family gathered for Mother’s Day in the park yesterday. I love this location. While rain was initially expected, the day turned out much better… low humidity and partly sunny skies. You’ve been here with me before at previous family picnics. Today, we set up under shady trees near the lake. As we began our gathering, my brother looked up above my head and called out to you, “Where’s Xxxx? He’s in heaven.”
I tilted my head and asked him more questions. “Can you see him now?”
“yes.”
“Who is he with? Is Daddy here?”
“No.”
“How about grandma & grandpa?”
“No.”
Who is he with?
He named our beloved pets, our dog and most recent cat.
Who knows if you and our pets were around me or not, but I’m glad that you’re on my brother’s mind. And who knows, maybe your spirit rides with me, protecting me, whispering council in my ear. I was surprised that our other lost loved ones, including our dad, were not visible to him in that moment, and he had nothing to say about them. Just you.
